Building a Boat

Today I am building a boat. This is my first entry into this platform, and I am so happy you are here.

Why am I building a boat today? ……….. I have wanted to write a book for many years, but more on that later, it is in the works, although the “fear and doubt thing” that we are going to unpack today is causing several delays.

While I have prayerfully asked God to tell me the right time to write this book, He has laid in my heart in many ways, through many people and avenues, that this blog is His first step for me.

Can I be totally honest with you? I had to look up what a blog was, so here we are, “blogging.”

But back to why TODAY I am building this boat ………

Well today I heard a song……by Colten Dixon, “Build a Boat”!

In this song, Colten clearly says he, too, has been wandering through the desert, much like I am running from God in this journey of the unknown, “blogging.”

As I listened to this song, I felt so much hope and courage and was reminded so much of what My God can do if I ONLY TRUST Him and build this boat …..He will make it rain. That part is not my responsibility!

I have experienced every emotion possible before arriving at this very moment. Fear probably being my biggest hurdle. Fear that my family and dearest friends will be the only ones who will ever read my “wisdom”. Fear that anyone else who is brave or bored enough to read it will laugh at me or think, “What in the world is she thinking?”. Fear that I will run out of things to say, probably but not possible. Most importantly, fear that what I have to say is not relevant enough.

UGH FEAR!

Doubts cause fear, and I am doubting myself. Webster describes “doubt” as uncertain, wavering, disbelief, and lack of trust. This is exactly where I am. I am so uncertain or certain I don’t know what I am doing here. I have been wavering. I am in disbelief that anyone will enjoy, learn from, or be encouraged by my words, and I am certainly not trusting God to take me to the mountain HE so badly wants to take me to.

Then there is excitement and joy we all want more of this, but here is the thing: when you know you are supposed to be doing something, whether it is a directive from God, your boss, your husband, your wife, or just a commitment you have made, and you choose to run from it, it will undoubtedly cause you so much stress, aggravation, and truly steal your joy.

Are you running? Well, are you? Be honest about anything at all in your life right now: new job, marriage issues, finances, decisions that need to be made, eating habits, drinking habits, and things that need to be tackled or handled. We ALL are so there IS a wrong answer here!

Have you been wandering through the desert….like me?
Will you build your boat in the sand where they say it never rains…..with me?
Will you stand with me in faith and do anything it takes….anything?

So, today, I started building this boat with these words you have read…..
LET IT RAIN GOD, MY FAITH IS IN YOU and YOU ARE MY COMPASS.

The story behind the Velvet Chair:

I invite you to join me on this journey of vulnerability, faith, and growth, and to share your own stories as we learn and grow together.

This is where I write about the quite inner life we all lead, the resistance we face, the courage to grow and the God who stays with us through it all. If this is your first visit, make yourself at home.

Blessings,
Keli
